GLOBAL GR-711

This divine Global GR-711 was manufactured in Japan circa 1959. It is another outstanding example of the art of Japanese radio design. Note the succulent gold reverse-painted face and the tuning dial bordered by a shield like silver chevron – smashing!

It also has a nice kinked copper wire ‘kick stand’ for relaxing at the beach…

This Global was also made as a rare Zephyr with the same model number and recently I came across one branded as a Town & Country; possibly even rarer than the Zephyr! I have also seen variants of this Global with a badge on the speaker grill.

It came in at least six different colors; beige, black, lavender, red, light blue and this ivory example. It would certainly be nice to have them all!

This superb Global comes with its original gift box, leather carry case, leather earphone case, earphone, and an old Novel 9V battery made in Japan by Fuji. It even has its little Global instruction book and as an added bonus it still has the plastic bag that the radio came in stamped ‘Made in Japan’.
